Passive Home Site Orientation

Building a passive house means orienting the majority of the glazing so it faces south.

This allows for capture of the suns energy in the winter for passive heating. The original house was not facing true South, so we needed to rotate the new house about about 10 degrees to reach our goal. The same hole was to be used for the new foundation, so it was easy enough to dig back a few feet on all sides to allow or a similar size footprint, rotated to its new position.

Orienting the house with a compass and marking the new position for the excavation and concrete teams.
